Stuck in Neutral: The Mahindra XUV700 and Thar Waiting Period Predicament

The Mahindra XUV700 Thar RWD diesel variant requires a waiting period of up to 45 weeks, whereas the XUV700 only requires a waiting period of up to 8 weeks.

At the moment, Mahindra XUV700 & Mahindra’s Scorpio model book more monthly reservations than the XUV700 and Thar combined. Although the domestic manufacturer’s run of product releases over the past three to four years has been largely successful, there are now long wait times for many models due to high demand.

But in an effort to shorten the delivery schedule, Mahindra has increased production recently. After adding a six-seater variant, the Mahindra XUV700’s price range was recently extended to between Rs. 13.99 lakh and Rs. 26.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

For both the petrol and diesel versions, the entry-level MX and AX3 variants require a four-week wait. There will be a four- to six-week waiting period for the Mahindra XUV700 AX5 mid-level trim in February 2024, depending on availability and location.

Ascending the ranks, the XUV700 AX7 is available with a five to six-week waiting period, whereas the top-of-the-line AX7 L has a seven to eight-week wait. Only when making a reservation at the dealership can one inquire about the waiting period for the ESP-equipped variants.

Both a hard top and a convertible top are available for the Mahindra Thar 4WD. After a nine to eleven-week waiting period, both are accessible. In the beginning of 2023, Mahindra unveiled the 2WD Thar.

Although it has the longest wait times, customers have also given it positive reviews. Sales of the hard-top petrol and diesel versions are subject to waiting periods of up to 42 weeks and 22 weeks, respectively. Priced from Rs. 11.25 lakh for the base model to Rs. 17.20 lakh (ex-showroom) for the highest specification trim, the Thar is available for purchase.
