Ford Maverick Hybrid: The Recall Chronicles Continue

Ford Maverick Hybrid: At this point, we might as well synchronize our watches with the arrival of the latest recall notices from Ford. Our long-term Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid just keeps making headlines—if not for its reliability, then definitely for its seemingly endless parade of recalls.

Since our last update in January, the Maverick has continued to serve our team faithfully, offering solid performance and no significant issues, well, aside from the constant stream of repair notices. Back when we first documented its recall history, we had five to report. Now? That total has doubled, with five more recall alerts and Customer Satisfaction Programs (CSPs) landing in our inbox. These CSPs are essentially Ford’s goodwill fixes—extended warranties or complimentary repairs for known potential issues.

A Decade of Notices in Two Years

To be clear, none of these issues have left us stranded, and most have required nothing more than a software update. Still, ten notices in two years for one vehicle? That’s a record-breaker for us. Most of our long-term test vehicles only stick around for a year, and even those haven’t seen this level of manufacturer attention.

The First Wave of Fixes

Here’s a refresher on the initial set of recalls our Maverick received:

  • Safety Recall 23S27 (23V380): A potential fire hazard addressed with a powertrain control module (PCM) software update. Thankfully, no fiery incidents to report.
  • Exhibit 23C03 concerning Industrial Hygiene: Here is the patching of the sensors that is due to be a cause of trouble. Fixed with—you guessed it—new PCM software.
  • Emission Recall 23E09: Fuel/air mix issues prompting, once again, a PCM software refresh.
  • Compliance Recall 23C41 (23V848): Burned-out rear turn signals might go unnoticed due to detection errors. A body control module (BCM) update sorted it out.
  • Subject to recall No. 24C01 (24V140): Instrument cluster may not illuminate in low light. The required software update for the driver’s instrument finally solved the problem.

The Latest Round of Recalls and CSPs

Since our last report, the following new items have popped up:

  • Safety recall 24S27 (24V293) says it is a BCM failure again-but in the meantime, it will have burned the taillight circuit. The problem was fixed with another software patch.
  • Customer Satisfaction Program 23N06: Ford would perform a free engine long block replacement within 10 years or 100,000 miles, just in case your 2.5-liter I-4 would happen to go KABOOM! Notice like this was given to us twice.
  • The rear view camera feed could freeze, independent of the ignition state; this is a safety recall for item 24S59 (24V684).The fix? A long-awaited software update, finally issued six months later.
  • NT 24N04: The possibility of accounting for the actuator circuit board of the exhaust heat recovery system. The assistant mentioned that Ford will cover replacement up to 15 years or 250,000 miles.
  • CSP 24N08: The driver’s seatbelt buckle might fail. Ford offers coverage for replacement for a period of 15 years and 250,000 miles from the date of the car’s purchase.

Is the Maverick Reliable?

Despite the paperwork, yes—our Maverick has proven reliable in practice. None of the issues listed above ever actually materialized in our truck. It’s always started, driven well, and avoided downtime (other than after a minor rear-end accident).

So maybe Ford’s just being extra cautious. Or maybe we’ve been lucky. If you had taken a look at the best qualities of the mavericks of tomorrow in 2025, they would have far fewer bugs and would not spam your inbox at every step of the way.
