Selling 10,000 vehicles annually is hardly a major accomplishment for major automakers, but for those at the top of the luxury market, it is a noteworthy turning point. As of right now, Lamborghini has certified that it delivered 10,112 cars globally in 2023, marking the first time in the brand’s 60-year history that sales have surpassed 10,000.
With precisely 3000 cars coming to the United States and another 357 heading to Canada, the United States turned out to be the largest market. With 961 cars, Germany ranked second in terms of national market size, behind only China (845 units) and the United Kingdom (801 units). Though Italy is Lamborghini’s home market, the country only delivered 409 cars, placing it in eighth place, behind South Korea. This is probably because of the high ownership taxes that the country imposes on high-end, high-performance vehicles.
Given that Lamborghini was only producing two models at the time, the new record is all the more remarkable. With 6087 deliveries, the Urus SUV accounted for the majority of sales, with the Huracan accounting for another 3962 vehicles. The remaining sixty-three Aventadors were the final models delivered; the legendary supercar was momentarily brought back into production following the loss of multiple vehicles in a fire on a car transporter ship. Included in the total are some special edition V-12-powered vehicles, such as the final 112 Countach LPI 800-4 cars, we assume.
The arrival of the new Revuelto, which blends plug-in hybrid assistance with V-12 power, came too late to have an impact on 2023’s manufacturing figures. Although Lamborghini claims that the first three years of the Revuelto’s production are already reserved, sales of the Huracan are probably going to remain stable as it approaches its eventual retirement later this year. It is also known that Lamborghini plans to introduce a revised Urus model shortly, which will utilize the same 729-horsepower hybridized twin-turbo V-8 engine seen in the Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid.
10,000 automobiles is a significant amount for any luxury manufacturer, even though it is small by the standards of the global auto industry (Toyota sells about 6000 cars a day on average in the US alone). To put things in perspective, over the first 30 years of its existence, Lamborghini produced about 8,000 automobiles overall. In 2022, Ferrari and Bentley achieved sales volumes in the five figures, with 13,221 and 15,147 sales, respectively. Rolls-Royce (6032 cars in 2023) and Aston Martin (6412 cars in 2022) continue to be more exclusive options for millionaires seeking even more exclusivity.
