  • The Perspective The Neue Klasse X is a concept car that will serve as a sneak peek into BMW’s next electric portfolio.
  • The X is probably our first glimpse at the New BMW’s iX3 when it goes on sale later in the year, though we have already seen a camouflaged test version.

The German automaker not only tripled its automobile sales that decade after launching a Neue Klasse, or new class, of the sedan, but it also produced the 2002, one of our all-time favorites. New BMW’s introducing upcoming all-electric vehicles under the new Vision Neue Klasse nameplate, drawing inspiration from the past. The Vision sedan concept, which BMW revealed last year and is probably an i3 sedan for 2026, has been replaced by the brand-new Neue Klasse. The largest vehicle to carry the moniker, the Vision Neue Klasse X, will likely be the first all-electric X3 in the United States when it goes into production in 2025 as the iX3.

New BMW’s claims that the concept’s look is quite similar to the finished product. A camouflaged SUV that resembled the Neue Klasse X was seen testing in the snow earlier this year. The idea, which was presented to us during a press conference outside of Lisbon, Portugal, boasted amazing detailing. The kidney grille has been reinterpreted as a dynamic, backlit, and illuminated piece that appears as though it may be reached into.

It feels the same with the LED headlights. During the day, the running lights appear to be lighting supports beneath a piece of architecture. Similar to the red and blue parallelograms that go into making up new BMW’s M logo, their design radiates movement. Additionally, as a driver approaches or departs, the headlights and the illuminated kidney grille dance and activate even if they remain still.

The X’s taller sides have a sharper, flatter look above the wheels as compared to the Neue Klasse sedan. The Neue Klasse X concept features staggered tires with 275/35 on the front and 295/35 on the rear, with 22-inch wheels covered in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber. The production vehicle will be different from this concept. Though the wheels are just regular lug studs, they have an authentic-looking center-locking lug stud cover on them.

Upon closely examining the Neue Klasse X’s back, one may question how the rear tailgate could be opened without causing a split in the taillights. It doesn’t. A concept’s beauty lies in that. Remarkably, the Neue Klasse X has door handles that resemble those of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which opens via a tiny winglet on the exterior of the door after being actuated with a touch.

There’s more to the Vision Neue Klasse X than just its eye-catching new appearance. New BMW’s also showcased its most advanced speech assistant to date, which is meant to appear more genuine than Google Assistant or Alexa.

The Neue Klasse X is marginally bigger than the worldwide all-electric iX3 and the current X3 that are sold here. The inside appears to be just as roomy as an X5. It has a Panoramic Vision dashboard that is incredibly customizable.  The upper display, which extends over the width of the dash just below the windscreen, lets passengers touch and drag the data that matters most to them into it.

By letting the middle of its shelf glow, the Neue Klasse X’s dashboard elevates interior LED accent lighting to a new level. The iDrive controller, which was originally located in the center console, has been replaced with the infotainment display in the middle of the dashboard. You may check your Instagram feed, play video games, and upload your photos and themes to use as background images on the new UI.

Although highway range testing and acceleration times are commonly used to gauge performance, BMW is putting a lot of effort into winning the less well-known race of computing. Two “super brains,” which are now used to power the all-electric i5, will be used in future BMW models.

In terms of driving range, BMW informed us that the Neue Klasse X design reduces drag by about 20% in comparison to its existing SUVs. Charge times will be accelerated by their new eDrive units, which swap out the prismatic battery cells for more energy-dense lithium-ion ones. According to information provided by Neue Klasse X, the all-new iX3 is expected to have a 30 percent boost in total driving range. This might equate to a highway range of about 240 miles when converted to an estimated EPA figure from Europe’s Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP).

Hungary will start producing the next-generation iX3, which this Neue Klasse X hints, at some point in 2025. Models presently manufactured in China, such as the iX3 and the long-wheelbase i3 sedan, will be produced at the new Debrecen plant.
