2025 Ram 1500 RHO: With a twin-turbo straight-six engine producing 540 horsepower and a starting price of $71,990, Ram’s wide-body off-road vehicle retains its suspension fit for a Baja.
- With a 3.0-liter straight-six engine producing 540 horsepower and a starting price of $71,990, the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO appears.
- The 2025 Ram 1500 RHO retains the long-travel suspension, wider body style, and more robust parts of the previous Ram TRX, even with a new engine and moniker.
- The RHO also incorporates other new elements, including an upgraded interior and a revamped front end, from the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO range facelift.
Though its fire-breathing Hellcat V-8 engine, which could be summon 702 supercharged horses, has long since been fossilized, we will always be able to enjoy its booming music and lightning-fast acceleration. Even while it’s sorry to see that beast leave, there are other aspects of the TRX besides its powerful 6.2-liter Hemi engine that we adore. Though it has two fewer cylinders, the new 2025 Ram 1500 RHO picks up the trophy truck mantle with the same iconic wide-body form and suspension suitable for the Baja.
2025 Ram 1500 RHO: Rock You Like a Hurricane
Its high-output Hurricane engine from the Stellantis is housed under a redesigned grille that sits higher than the previous one and sports a flow-through “RAM” emblem. Its 3.0-liter inline-six twin-turbo engine produces 540 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque. These numbers are the same as the Hurricane H/O that we’ve had an opportunity to test, which is available on the top trim levels of Ram’s updated 1500 series. Similarly, the RHO’s eight-speed automatic gearbox, which powers a full-time all-wheel-drive system, is provided by ZF.
Ram claims that the six-cylinder configuration of the RHO is 150 pounds lighter than the TRX, despite the Hurricane engine’s 162 horsepower and 129 pound-feet being lost. Improved fuel economy is also promised. The high-output Hurricane on other half-ton Rams is estimated to get 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway, compared to the TRX’s pitiful 10/14 mpg in the city and highway. According to Ram, the RHO is still requesting clearance. Although the RHO’s roar will never be able to match that of a supercharged Hemi, Ram claims that because of a real dual exhaust system that emerges through massive five-inch tips, it will sound unique from the rest of its brothers.
Performance predictions for the RHO also don’t lag far behind what Ram predicted for the TRX; it’s said to reach 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, a mere tenth slower than the TRX. Although the two trucks have the same maximum speed limit of 118 mph, the RHO’s quarter-mile time of 13.1 ticks at 105 mph is marginally slower than the TRX’s 12.9 seconds at 108 mph, according to Ram. Naturally, we tested a 2021 TRX, and that vehicle was far faster—it reached 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and completed a quarter-mile in 12.3 seconds at 110 mph.
RHO: Rise of the Rhino
The new Ram 1500 RHO and the TRX are fundamentally identical. Both vehicles have a long-travel suspension system, adjustable Bilstein dampers, and forged aluminum front control arms. A set of large 35-inch-tall Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires is also included with the RHO; 18-inch wheels with Beadlock capability are also an option.
The truck has remarkable off-road clearances because of its big tires and two-inch raise. The RHO features up to 11.8 inches of ground clearance, an approach angle of 31 degrees, a breakover angle of 22 degrees, and a departure angle of 25 degrees. It can also cross up to 32 inches of water, and the filter is readily cleaned because it is housed in an open-top box in case it absorbs too much unclean air.
Improvements made inside that have spread throughout the ’25 Ram 1500 series help the RHO. The most notable addition to this is a new technology, which includes a 12.0-inch digital gauge cluster as standard and a newly available 14.5-inch touchscreen that is angled vertically and runs Uconnect 5 software. Additionally, a 10.3-inch touchscreen facing the front-seat passenger is included because, let’s face it, these days one can never have too many screens.
A useful 360-degree camera system, a digital rearview mirror, two wireless charging pads, massaging front seats, heated and ventilated rear outboard seats, a head-up display, power-adjustable pedals with memory settings, and a 19-speaker Harman Kardon stereo with 900 watts are all included in the latter options’ comprehensive RHO Equipment package. Additional driver aids including an evasive steering assist, a driver-attention monitor, and a hands-free highway driving mode are also included in the kit.
Ram hasn’t said clearly what “RHO” stands for, for those who are asking. There are strong indications that it’s short for “rhino,” not “Ram High Output,” as some have claimed. Look at the RHO badge on the center console in addition to the fact that that was the project’s internal codename. The VIN is shown with a picture of a rhinoceros. These are some quick facts about rhinos, even though they’re not quite as vicious as a Tyrannosaurus Rex: Right now, they’re the second-biggest land mammal, only surpassed in size by elephants, and they can move at surprisingly fast speeds—between 30 and 40 mph. Oh, and they have a fierce horn on their faces, in case you missed it.
RHO: A Lot Less Expensive TRX
Ram is providing over 26,000 reasons to cheer up those who are still grieving over the loss of the TRX. This is because the base price of the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO is $71,990, approximately $26K cheaper than that of the 2024 TRX, which was a $98,335 base price. Because of this, the RHO is also significantly less costly than the F-150 Raptor, which has a starting price of $80,325. Ram’s best off-road vehicle, however, costs a few thousand less than the Tundra TRD Pro ($73,980) and a little more than the Silverado ZR2 ($71,895).
Orders for the RHO are currently being accepted, and dealerships should receive the vehicle sometime in the third quarter of this year. Keep checking back for the complete price and our ideal version’s specifications, since we’re still awaiting Ram to reveal the costs of the various option packages.
