This 7 Series Protection is capable of withstanding attacks from snipers, bombs, and bullets.
BMW 7 Series
With their most recent security car, BMW 7 has raised the bar for vehicle protection. The folks at BMW took their time crafting the most recent 7 Series, resulting in something genuinely unique, after the previous generation eschewed the protection package. This is the newest 7 Series Protection car, which is currently available for purchase in India. If you’re interested, only BMW will disclose the exact price. However, we have heard that it is roughly Rs 15 crore.
Fortunately, we still know some information about the BMW 7 Series Protection, and these are the salient features. Things are really THAT secretive about this car:
Disguise 101
It is intentional for the 7 Series Protection to have the same appearance as the regular 7 Series version. Probably best to blend in with the convoy and avoid drawing attention to yourself if you’re a target, don’t you think?
The 20-inch wheels are encircled by Michelin-sourced 255-740 R510 tires, which have a thicker sidewall, making it impossible for anyone but die-hard BMW fans to tell them apart. The remainder of the vehicle is styled like a typical 7 Series car.
The exterior color options are as follows: Pure Grey, Oxide Grey, Brooklyn Grey, Deep Grey, and Adventurine Red.
Strength from within
It takes work for a car to reach the VR9 level of protection. To provide such a level of protection, significant modifications have to be made, beginning at the very beginning. Therefore, 10mm ballistic steel is used to make the protective shell for the 7 Series Protection vehicle. The underbody receives extra armouring, and the glasses have multi-layered bullet-resistant glazing, making them thicker than you might think.
Actually, the glass windows have the highest level of protection available for civilian protected vehicles—VPAM 10 classification. Furthermore, an upgrade to the armored structure with VPAM 10 protection is an option.
The tires are run-flat units that can travel up to 80 km/h at full pressure loss and have a run-about 30-kilometer range. The fuel tank is self-closing.
Luxuriant still
There are still plenty of luxurious amenities inside the 7 Series Protection’s cabin. Thus, you have the two curved screens, the high-end Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround sound system, ambient lighting, seats that are heated and cooled, and heated windscreens for constant best visibility.
Even the material quality—which is something tangible and invisible to the naked eye—is on par with the regular 7 Series. You can still select from three full leather upholsteries and four trim options. Therefore, it not only considers safety but also the VIPs’ inside comfort and convenience.
Plenty oomph
The 7 Series Protection is not a light vehicle by any means, weighing close to 4,000 kg. Nevertheless, a 4.4-liter V8 petrol engine with 530PS and 750Nm is mounted beneath the hood.
Therefore, in an emergency, it will accelerate from 0 to 100 miles per hour in just 6.6 seconds, and it will gladly cruise at its top speed of 209 miles per hour. The suspension parts are different, despite the fact that the 8-speed automatic transmission powers all four wheels.
The chassis has been adjusted to provide maximum comfort for the rear passenger while maintaining equal stability and cornering poise in order to accommodate the additional weight.
Suit yourself
The 7 Series Protection vehicle can be customized to meet your needs, or rather, safety needs, in addition to its standard suite of safety equipment and modifications. For use when the vehicle is on official business, you can equip it with safety features like radio transceivers, flagpoles, flashing lights, a fire extinguishing system, and a fresh-air supply system.
BMW 7 claims that it will only provide quotes to prospective customers and has not disclosed the prices for it. However, based on its competitors, you should expect a massive premium over the going rates, which may reach up to Rs 15 crore. For comparison, the ex-showroom pricing of the India-spec 6-cylinder variants starts at Rs 1.81 crore.
It competes with vehicles such as the Audi A8L Security and serves as a substitute for the Range Rover Sentinel, which serves as the prime minister of India’s security vehicle at the moment.
