Hyundai i20:The global pandemic forced the cancellation of the third generation of the i20, which was supposed to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show at the beginning of 2020. Even so, given that it was an inexpensive car, sales were enough to keep it going. Hyundai preserved it as a result, giving it a makeover in the spring of 2023.
It was another one of the Korean automaker’s “spot the differences” contests. For the i20, there weren’t many differences between the 2020 and 2023 model years. Nevertheless, the updated model’s front bumper had new side scoops with extra wings on it. The facelifted version retained the same profile but had amber lenses over the blinkers rather than white and dynamic lights for the Z-shaped taillights. New 16- or 17-inch light-alloy wheels were also available to customers.
The instrument cluster, which featured a standard 4.2″ LCD with the option for a 10.25″ one, similar to its non-facelifted sibling, was the most notable improvement inside. Hyundai remembered to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the menu, even though these features were already standard equipment for all Korean automakers.
A one-liter inline-three petrol engine with two power options was available for the Kia i20.

With every new iteration of the Hyundai i20, Hyundai has consistently raised the bar for the premium hatchback market, and the third-generation model is no exception. It adds a plethora of class-leading features that you would typically only find in a segment above. There are three engine choices: a 1.2 petrol, a 1.0 turbo-petrol, and a 1.5 diesel. A variety of gearbox options are also available. The new Hyundai i20 is unquestionably the priciest hatchback in the class, but the price has also increased.

Undercover, Hyundai i20 India unveiled the i20 Sportz(O) variant, which retails for Rs. 8.73 lakh (ex-showroom). This trim level costs Rs. 35,000 more than the base Sportz variant but comes with a wireless charger, an electric sunroof, and door armrests with leatherette trim.

Hyundai i20 Rivals
The new Hyundai i20 is larger than the previous model in almost every way: it is 10 mm longer, 41 mm wider, and has a 10 mm longer wheelbase. The height of it is the only dimension that hasn’t changed (1505mm).
It’s also important to note that the new i20 has the longest wheelbase of its competitors, measuring 2580mm. This is encouraging for the available legroom. Even though the Altroz’s boot is only 14 litres smaller, the Honda Jazz still has the largest boot, albeit by a narrow margin. With a boot capacity 60 litres less than the leader of the class, the Volkswagen Polo has the smallest boot in the class.
The Tata Altroz is ranked second in terms of width, while the third-generation i20 is the winner. In this comparison, the narrowest model is the Honda Jazz. Additionally, the Jazz stands out due to its smaller 15-inch wheels even though all of the models in the segment ride on 16-inch rims (at least in their top trim levels).
