Mahindra has introduced two new brands, Mahindra BE and Mahindra XUV. Five new SUVs will be released under these brands in the Indian market: three under BE and two under XUV.
In NEW DELHI: Homegrown auto major Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) presented five new electric sports utility vehicles (e-SUVs) on Monday under two EV brands.
Be.05, Be.07, and Be.09 are the new models under BE, whereas Mahindra XUV.e9 and Mahindra XUV.e8 are the new models under Mahindra XUV. By the end of 2024, the first of these new vehicles is anticipated to go on sale. Additionally, the new electric SUVs from BE will be built on the business’s new INGLO electric platform. Mahindra XUV SUVs will be based on the XUV700, with the SUV XUV.e8 and the coupe XUV.e9.The XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, and BE.07 are scheduled to launch between April 2025 and October 2026, while the XUV.e8 will launch in December 2024. BE.09’s debut date has not been announced by Mahindra.
Mahindra’s ambitious venture comes at a time when the automotive industry is transitioning from internal combustion engine (ICE) technology, which has been around for more than a century, to battery-powered vehicles, and every automaker, from established players to up-and-coming businesses, is doing their best to stay relevant.
Even though e-4Ws’ share of India’s overall passenger car sales is far less than that of the US or China, it has gained some momentum recently. Tata Motor now rules this market in India. Anand Mahindra, chairman of M&M, thinks the Mahindra brand can dominate the e-4W industry with the help of the knowledge it gained from its electric 3-wheeler company and its extensive global R&D network.
Anish Shah, the managing director and chief executive officer of the Mahindra Group, stated that by 2027, EVs are anticipated to account for one-fourth of SUV sales. On Monday, Mahindra and German automaker Volkswagen announced that they had signed a contract to further investigate their partnership in the EV market. Over the course of its existence, the collaboration hopes to sell more than a million units, five of which will be equipped with MEB components.
Along with M&M, Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors, the two biggest automakers in India, are investing billions in the creation of EVs. Suzuki Motor has pledged Rs10,440 crore in order to introduce its first EV by 2025, while Tata Motors wants to invest USD 2 billion over the next five years to have a portfolio of 10 EVs. Mahindra also intends to make over $1 billion in investments. In July, the business received funding from British International Investment of Rs 70,070 crore.
The INGLO platform was created to be safer, offer quick charging coupled with more power, and work with all body types. Future SUVs will be able to use the platform’s 60–80 kWh batteries and 175 kW fast charging, which can charge batteries from 0% to 80% in 30 minutes. It should be mentioned that the BE brand’s SUVs built on this platform will have a whole different design language to appeal to new customers. These SUVs will also come equipped with a tonne of contemporary cabin technology as well as sophisticated amenities like self-parking and ADAS.
Mahindra BE.05
A rather compact SUV based on the INGLO platform will be the Mahindra BE.05. The SUV will have a completely new, strong design language with a racing theme and the “spirit of Mahindra” to appeal to a new market.
Mahindra BE.07
Mahinda BE.07 will be an SUV with a slightly bigger size compared to BE.05 and again based on the same INGLO platform. The SUV will be buffed with modern features inside the cabin. Furthermore, the SUVs design language reflects what the future of Mahindra electric cars will be.
Mahindra BE.09
Mahindra BE.09 is the third SUV announced by the automaker today under its new brand. The SUV seems to be bigger than earlier models with what seems to be a hint of a hint a hybrid design.
Mahindra XUV.e8
The Mahinda SUV.e8 is most likely going to be the first of these electric SUVs to be introduced to the Indian market under the new brand with a copper twin peaks logo. Although the new SUV will have more modern amenities and an interior to fit its new heritage, it will be built on the Mahindra XUV700.
Mahindra XUV.e9
Based on the Mahindra XUV700, the Mahindra XUV.e9 will be an electric coupe. With characteristics comparable to those of contemporary cars, the new will be introduced to the Indian market with the same copper twin peaks logo.
