Mahindra XUV900: Mahindra approved the XUV900 coupe SUV project in November 2021. Tata Motors had been hinting at the Harrier coupe idea (codename: H8) at about the same time. However, both businesses have now abandoned their intentions to introduce ICE coupe SUVs and have turned their attention to other projects.
Even if the Tata H8 and XUV900 projects are no longer active, we anticipate that both SUVs will return to the Indian market in a completely different configuration. When the Curvv EV goes on sale in the middle of 2024, Tata Motors will be the first company to provide a coupe SUV in the low-cost market. Both EV and ICE variants of the new car, which is anticipated to be a scaled-down Tata H8 concept SUV, will be produced.
Regarding Mahindra, the business has shifted its focus to the XUV.e9, which may be rebranded as the XUV900 when it launches in 2025. The coupe SUV, which was spotted road testing close to the company’s development facility in Chennai, is anticipated to be larger than the XUV700. Here is what we currently know about the impending electric SUV, the Mahindra XUV900 coupe.
Mahindra XUV900: Design
The next Mahindra SUV, the XUV900, will take design influences from the XUV Aero concept that was unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo. The new model, which is based on the INGLO skateboard platform, will have a commanding and dominant appearance. The new look will initially be shared with the company’s other electric SUVs. Highlights include an LED headlight positioned vertically, an LED brake light bar and DRL attached to it, and a sizable plastic panel in place of the customary grille.
The model’s largest modification originates behind the B-pillar. The XUV700’s flush door handles are anticipated to remain, but the SUV has a unique appearance thanks to its sloping roofline and steeply sloped rear windscreen. The new XUV.e9 will have dimensions of 4.79 metres in length, 1.9 metres in width, and 1.69 metres in height. All things considered, the next Mahindra XUV900 will have a muscular exterior and a sleek appearance.
Mahindra XUV900: Interior
Although the Mahindra XUV.e9’s inside is still a mystery, spy photos have provided us with a sneak peek at what to expect. The XUV.e8, the XUV700 SUV’s electric variant, and the upcoming coupe SUV will have the same interior design.
A new two-spoke steering wheel, a rotary infotainment controller, a traditional gear lever, an electronic parking brake, ambient lighting, a big panoramic sunroof, ADAS, auto park, and more could be among the interior highlights. As per the brand’s teaser image, the upcoming XUV900 would be the first vehicle in India to come equipped with three 12.3-inch linked displays on the interior.
Mahindra XUV900: Powertrain
Specifics about the XUV900’s engine have not been verified by the business. Two battery pack configurations are anticipated for the new model: a 60 kWh short-range option and an additional 80 kWh long-range option. The four-wheeler, which has a maximum range of more than 400 km, will be available in both FWD and AWD configurations.
We anticipate that the XUV900 will only be available as an electric vehicle at launch, with petrol and diesel ICE versions coming later in the lineup.
Mahindra XUV900: Expected Price
Mahindra Automobiles stated during the unveiling that the XUV900 will go on sale in the first half of 2025. It’s difficult to predict, but we estimate the new model will cost between Rs 35 and Rs 40 lakh.
